Prince Charles Edward book (1900) by Andrew Lang. Antoine Vincent Walsh (1703 _æ_ 1763) was an Irish-born shipowner and slave trader, operating in Nantes, France, whose family were exiled Jacobites. He was a merchant and major figure in the slave trade of Nantes. Slave-trading and plantation-owning had made him wealthy and the friend of kings. The trade supplied Africa with textiles, brandy, and firearms; slaves for the French West Indies in Martinique, Guadeloupe and Saint-Domingue; sugar and tobacco for Europe. In 1741 he married Mary O'Shiell, a French-Irish businesswoman in Nantes in France. Prince Charles Edward Stuart (1720-1788), Grandson of James II; Bonnie Prince Charlie, or the Young Pretender, was the grandson of James II, who was deposed in 1688. In 1745 he landed in Scotland and and led a rising of the Highland clans, in an attempt to regain the British throne. He caused panic in London by reaching as far south as Derby before retreating. His defeat at Culloden by the Duke of Cumberland in 1746 saw the end of the Jacobite cause. was printed on Premium Heavy Stock Paper and the available sizes and options for this image are listed above.
